3rd Student M

Lives: In Plimerton with parents;

Schools: Wellington High School, Yr13, classics, english, graphics/design, history. Some of these grew out of introductory courses in Yr9 and 10.

Interests outside of school: music (just been to an interview to be a guitar tutor),

Awareness/preparedness for post-school: Thinks about jobs he would like and what it takes to get them, including tertiary study. Been to careers expo and Vic evening event.Parents have been a source, as (at least)mother has a tertiary background.

Post-school options: BA in political science or sociology. Design at AUT

Want to know from website: What must be done by when (e.g. timeline) for admission. Entry requirements and the application process. Pre/background reading. What is it like to be there (i.e. the vibe)? What scholarships are available?

High level I/A: Numbered are where to find info about what you want to study, rest were to tease out understanding of the term.

  1. Faculties and schools: Find classics and have a read.
  2. Study at Vic: The things I must do
  • Current students: features of some students, "spotlighted"
  • Future students: "a very brief show of what you might expect, the courses and stuff"
  • Life at Vic: houses (for accommodation), community things/groups

2nd level I/A: Numbered are where to find info about what you want to study, rest were to tease out understanding of the term.

  1. Subjects: Top of the path for what I might study or start with
  • Degrees: what you aim for or get
  • Papers: what you study
  • Topics: very broad, larger than subjects
  • Courses: Three years of study and what you will cover
  • Programmes: Don't know. Maybe a form of course that isn't a course.
  • Careers: vacancies or career options for a subject

To enrol:

Study at Vic

Starting on the home page:

Promo tile "Forge your path" then Undergraduate, then from degree drop down selected BA

Found the classical studies major to get to a subject page. Liked the opening, found it relevant and interesting.

No understanding of the codes or course numbers. PG information of little to no interest at this stage.

Career options are of interest, but a list of them is too broad/vague

Soon after reading the subject he wants to know exactly what each paper is about/contains. Before enrolling or to make enrolment decisions.

Wants to know the faculty, as a proxy for knowing the campus where lectures will be held.

Selected a Graphics* as a second subject, navigation broke. None of us knew what the * was for???

Subject selected for Treejack: Need to match up with results in the tool

  1. Classics
  2. Graphical design
  3. Political Science

Additional notes from Anne

Wants to know about entry requirements - the process, deadlines. Enrolling.

LIkes to visit the campus - experience it. Thought the Kelburn campus was very cool - had a cool vibe.

Preliminary reading, research - what could I do before coming?

Course options - found the codes for levels etc confusing. "Assumes prior knowledge"

Scholarships useful

Card sort: Started with F&S. Would go to the school for classics department. Then subjects.

Understands UG and PG

Course finder > subjects

Course codes difficult, non-descriptive.
