Subjects and programmes: keywords + relationships
The bulk of the content gathered on this page has now been moved to the subject grouping spreadsheet. A copy of some of the data is attached below, with the rest in the mast (maintained by Paul). The notes section are comments (for the content writers) that had no place in the spreadsheet.
Notes
These comments were in the table below, but as rows are deleted I am parking them here for the content writers to consider.
For Management -> Business Administration: Given that the main pathway to learn about these programmes is not the topic page, is management the best topic for these? Or HR and IR? How do MBA and IMBA differ? VI only seems to reference one
For Management -> Management: Certificate in Management Studies is a professional programme and can lead in to an MBA yet it is not quite an UG degree either. Should it be from the subject management (as in it's title) or business administration?
For Design: Alternative terms could include Digital technology, Digital design, Information technology; Digital technology media; Digital design technology; Product and spatial design technology; Digital media
For Design -> Computer Graphics (Design): This is a subject at PG level and a specialisation at UG. How do we treat this at the UG level? Maybe in-page content only?
For Design: How do we link to the Master of Design (MDes), when it seems to be from a topic level and unrelated to the subjects within the topic? Do we need a subject Design that maps just to this programme?
For Media: Alternative terms could include Drama; Moving image culture;
For Music: Still murky on what is a subject and what is a specialisation (or even something lower), as the options seem complicated. Bachelor of Music with Honours also available in these subjects: Arranging, Jazz Performance, Ethnomusicology, Composition/Sonic Arts. Master of Music also available in these subjects: Musicology, Performance. Master of Musical Arts also available in Performance. Artist Diploma??? (ArtDip). Postgraduate Diploma of Music Teaching. Music therapy does not really fit the topic, so will need special treatment and it maps to the Master of Music Therapy (MMusTher) and Bachelor of Music with Honours (BMus(Hons))
For Education and Teaching: Might need more topics and will certainly identify more subjects.
For Education: Is the MEd both a 120 points by thesis and a 180 points by course work? If so, how will we handle this? Also UG degrees are under review. No 2016 intake for BA/BTeach or BSc/BTeach
For Environment: hard link to Biological sciences
For Health: hard links to Biomedical sciences and Psychology. And what subject to we hang to Master of Health Research off?
For Art History: Alternative term is Visual Culture
For Asian Languages and Literature: Alternative term is Modern Mandarin
For Law: Alternative term might be Legal Studies
For Mathematics: Alternative terms are Maths, Math, Calculus
For International Relations and Politics: Link to/from Social Sciences
For Science: Handle forensic science (a minor in Bachelor of Science (BSc) in text. Need to capture the new Masters when approved.
For Biological Sciences: Hard link to/from Environment
For Biomedical Science: Although you can study a BBmedSc, you must select from one of three majors where Biomedical science is not an option. By our rules this means that this subject is not available at the UG level, which is misleading and unhelpful. So, in the content please state that while this subject leads to specialised degree, it is actually one of the three following subjects that must be "studied"
For Earth Science: Earth and Space Science. Geophysics - meteorology and Geophysics - solid earth are split because different major requirements (at UG). At PG sometimes differentiated sometimes not. Differentiated for: BSc, GDipSci, MMet, PGDipMet. Not for: PGCertSci, PGDipSci BSc(Hons), MSc
For Science in Society: Rhian and Rebecca have requested that the subjects be Science communications, Contemporary issues in science in society and History of science. If they had this then they would not list Science in context at all, despite it being the name of the listed minor. Sam and Anne to handle when developing the topic page with these two.
