  • David Rowswell (Unlicensed) at the moment creative writing under qualifications is only listing PhD this is because they don't have the card one their page (because the card doesn't work for them). We are working on a longer term fix for them but in the meantime to make the PhD listing go away could you make the PhD standard content rather than a qualification block.

  • David Rowswell (Unlicensed)
  • Please move the PhD block to the bottom of the card. I hadn't read the page very carefully, but it breaks the flow where it is now.
  • Are you able to make the sections called 'Writing for the page' and 'Scriptwriting' sub-sections within 'Master of Arts in Creative Writing'? Use the black 'level 2 heading' (as per'Workshop' in 'How you'll learn') rather than the green level 1.
  • Add a grey 'Find out how to apply' button to the 'Master of Arts in Creative Writing' section, with the same link/url as in the 'Undergraduate information' section.
    • If this is not possible then add a new sub-section to the end of the 'Master of Arts in Creative Writing' section (below 'Srciptwriting') called 'How to apply' (black, level 2 heading), with the following content

The International Institute of Modern Letters has a unique application process and strict deadlines for getting your application in.

  • Move 'How to apply block to be the first on the page.
  • Add international 'How to apply' content, with the variable block being as follows:

Be sure to include the following documents with your application:

    • certified copy of your passport (the personal details page).
    • Evidence of your proficiency in English, if required.
    • certified copy of your official academic results.
    • A literary and/or professional CV detailing any work previously published, performed or produced, relevant courses taken, prizes or scholarships won, relevant writing and industry experience etc.
    • A one-page description of the project you hope to work on for your portfolio.
    • An indication of what you think will be most appropriate for your reading programme. This could take the form of a list of authors. (Remember that this commits you to nothing; details of individual reading programmes will be settled only after admissions to the MA are decided.)
    • A 10-to-20-page writing sample. This will be central to the selection process. The writing sample must be your own original work. Any inclusions from other sources, such as collage or found work, must be attributed appropriately.
NB: We will leave aside 'Key dates and fees' for now.

  • Tymara Oberdries (Unlicensed) under Emily Perkins add text in red:

Emily Perkins is an internationally published and award winning novelist and short story writer, who also writes for theatre and film and has presented TV books programmes.

    Discovering writing

Emily grew up in Auckland and in Wellington, where she trained at the New Zealand Drama School. In 1993 she studied creative writing in Bill Manhire’s class at Victoria University. Her first story was published in Sport at the end of that year.

    The wider world

In 1994 Emily moved to London, where Picador published her first book Not Her Real Name in 1996. Her novels Leave Before You Go and The New Girl followed, and as well as fiction, book reviews and personal essays she wrote a long-running column for the Independent on Sunday.

    Bringing it home

She returned to New Zealand in 2005 and in 2006 held the Buddle Findlay Frank Sargeson Residency. Novel About My Wife (Bloomsbury, 2008) won the Montana Book Award (NZ) and the Believer Book of the Year (US). In 2011 she was made an Arts Foundation Laureate. Her most recent novel The Forrests, (Bloomsbury, 2012) was selected as a Book of the Year by the Daily Telegraph, Observer and New Statesman, longlisted for the Women’s Prize in Fiction and shortlisted for Best Book of Fiction in the NZ Post Book Awards in 2013.

She has also adapted Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House for Auckland Theatre Company (2015) and co-wrote the screenplay for The Rehearsal, which opened in New Zealand and internationally in 2016. Emily lives in Wellington with her husband, artist Karl Maughan, and their children.

    Choose Victoria

Emily says, “You should study at Victoria because we attract excellent students, who gain as much from working together as with the staff. It really is a gift economy – the more you put in, the more you get out. The connections students make with each other can last well beyond the course, enhancing their lives as writers. It’s a dynamic place, open to a wide variety of voices.”

Tina Makereti writes novels, essays and short stories. Her short story, Black Milk, won the 2016 Pacific Regional Commonwealth Short Story Prize.
    Praise for first novel
Her first novel, Where the Rēkohu Bone Sings (Vintage, 2014) has been described as ‘a remarkable book that spans generations of Moriori, Māori and Pākehā descendants as they grapple with a legacy of pacifism, violent domination and cross-cultural dilemmas.’ It was longlisted for the Dublin Literary Award and won the 2014 Ngā Kupu Ora Aotearoa Māori Book Award for Fiction, which she had previously won with her short story collection, Once Upon a Time in Aotearoa (Huia, 2010).
“I began both my books as a student of creative writing at Victoria. The IIML gave me the research support and a community that was vital to the development of my creative work. Postgraduate study at Victoria also gave me the opportunity to produce research that is important to my community.”
    Recognition
In 2009 Tina was also the recipient of the Royal Society of New Zealand Manhire Prize for Creative Science Writing (Non-fiction) and the Pikihuia Award for Best Short Story Written in English. She has been writer in residence at Randell Cottage, Wellington, and the Weltkulturen Museum, Frankfurt.
    A writing life
