“I really enjoy the interaction with students who are working in the sector.”

Competitive edge for managers

The programme gives students the opportunity to gain skills in information and communication management. This makes students more competitive because most people don’t have these skills.

You get the critical analytic skills for navigating the current public management context, a critical perspective on ICT.

It’s designed to be used in real life contexts. We’ve had students who have come back to us saying “thank you for helping me change how we do things in our organisation”.

Transform service delivery

It’s for people in the state sector or local government who are working in information management and service delivery and who want to go digital. It’s not for people who have to be experts in IT, it’s for people who have to work with IT.

It combines theoretical insights from the academic body of knowledge on the digital transformation of public management, with hands-on skills—such as how to formulate strategies for ICT-enabled changes in service delivery.

Connections around the world

Students get the chance to build up networks of people from other parts of the sector.

This year I think we have students from five or six countries. It really brings very diverse perspectives on e-government.

We run the courses so people from Auckland, from Christchurch can participate. We have a modular format so they come to Wellington for three 9-5 modules. In between we use our online system.

I really enjoy the interaction with students who are working in the sector. I’m learning enormously from these interactions, from the ongoing dialogue. I often use what they’ve told me in later lectures.

Image of Sophea E is in the project folder.

The Images are loaded and can be previewed in Squiz but are not showing on the page yet (I'm assuming the delay is because of the upgrade) try refreshing or revisiting later. I'll follow up on the issue.

International students, global insights

Be part of a school that attracts not only local professionals but a talented group of international students—many highly experienced employees of government organisations in their own countries. Take advantage of the diverse experience in public policy and public management these students take to the classroom— providing valuable insights and bringing the comparative perspective alive.
