This content strategy is based on the UG pages, the PG user story WIP-591, common content on existing PG pages and the research into PG requirements.
We can reuse existing design patterns such as quotes, fun facts and videos/slideshows within the content.
Content may include links to downloadable documents (e.g. PDFs).
Content that will display for international students will be developed later.
More detailed content rules are noted in Writer's notes on how to do things.
We still need to decide our metadata requirements.
Language
The language we use will be the same as for UG—user-centred plain language aimed at the same reading level.
We can't assume our readers will understand university terminology unless it is common to all universities.
One difference is that we can assume more knowledge of the subjects so can use more subject-specific terms (if we're confident they're broadly understood across most universities). We can't assume that readers will understand the names Victoria gives to subjects though.
What does not go on the PG programme pages
Content that is frequently updated, highly detailed or specific should not be included on the programme pages, but may sit on school pages.
How PG programme content is structured
PG subject pages list and link to PG qualifications pages.
There are two types of PG qualifications pages:
- Standard PG qualification pages
- Named PG qualification pages
Because there is more variation between subjects and qualifications in PG than UG the structure and templates are more flexible.
Not all PG subjects will have subject pages. Some may be covered by the Named PG qualification pages (which cover both subject and qualification in the same page).
PG subject pages
Use when: The subject can be done in multiple qualifications (unless all these qualifications are part of a nested family of named/specialist qualifications).
These pages describe the subject, and the benefits of studying the subject, at PG level, and list and link to the qualifications you can study in this subject at PG level.
Because most benefits of study apply to the subject, not the specific qualification, most of the marketing messages will be on this subject page.
Contains content that applies to all qualifications you can do in that subject (with occasional exceptions noted).
Standard PG qualification pages
Use when: A qualification can be done in a number of subjects.
Because most benefits of study apply to the subject, not the specific qualification, there will be few marketing messages on the qualification pages (i.e. the pages will focus on how you study the qualification not why). The pages will include benefits that are specific to the qualification.
Requirements will be listed by subject. Other content will apply to all subjects you can do in that qualification (with occasional exceptions noted).
Named PG qualification pages
Use when: There is only one PG named or specialist qualification, or family of qualifications, for a subject.
This means that the subject and qualification content can be kept together on one page and set of tabs. These pages will cover both why and how you study the subject and the qualification.
Families may include qualifications in more specific subject areas within the family (e.g. The Postgraduate Diploma in Treasury Management is nested within the Master of Applied Finance).
