The BBmedSc represents three years of full-time study and may also be studied part-time.

To be accepted into the BBmedSc you need to:
- achieve University Entrance for at least one of the admission types.

Degree requirements
- Total of 360 points required, of which:
- Maximum of 180 points must be at 100 level.
- At least 180 points must be at 200 and 300 level.
- Complete six core courses at 100 level (usually in first year):
- BIOL 111
- BIOL 114
- BMSC 117
- CHEM 114
- PSYC 122
- MATH 141 or STAT 193.
- Complete three core courses at 200 level (usually in second year):
- BIOL 241
- BIOL 243
- BIOL 244.
- Satisfy the requirements for at least one major subject.
- Electives courses to make up the 360 points may be chosen from any other first degree at this university.

Students who do not have 18 credits in Chemistry at NCEA Level 3 (which must include AS91390, AS 91391 and AS91392) will have to complete CHEM 113 before beginning CHEM 114.
