Priorities of each delivery
Delivery 1: New taxonomy and current content
- UG & PG: Deliver revised taxonomy of topics for navigation purposes, and link to current subject pages.
A second release for the taxonomy page is under consideration with the following areas considered for scope:
Second release (date and scope not yet agreed)
- Add search of new taxonomy - Joe
- Update the a-z subject page to look like the international undergrad degree listing - https://www.victoria.ac.nz/international/study/undergraduate
Approach from meeting with Paul, Joe, Nathan, Tash and David
MUST
- Display the (interactive) taxonomy on a new page, ideally before (or soon after) 1st Oct and ready for core recruitment period (planned for Tuesday 29th Sept)
- This page will be accessible from:
- http://www.victoria.ac.nz/study/programmes-courses/subjects: Replacing the subjects a-z page
- http://www.victoria.ac.nz/study/programmes-courses: Replacing the subjects a-z section on this way finder page (text and meta data intro needs updating)
- Will build it in Squiz
- Will design and develop for both mobile and desktops
- The current subject listing page will move to a new url e.g. http://www.victoria.ac.nz/study/programmes-courses/subjects/all
- Will be linked to only from the taxonomy page
- Will be updated to contain all the subjects in the taxonomy
- Will be ordered alphabetically
- Will have documentation available for content writers and developers regarding its use, how to update/create content and what to do if it breaks
SHOULD
- Have metadata for mega-areas and topics
- Use images for mega-areas and topics (see wireframe)
- Taxonomy page has a search/filter box
COULD
- Subject listing page has a search/filter box and is restyled (all like VI)
- Subject listing page has introductory sentences for all subjects (like VI)
- Filter UG and PG topics and subjects for UG and PG pages in study
Options
- Release revised subject taxonomy to replace current full subject listing
- Release revised subject taxonomy, and provide option to also view the current full subject listing
- Release revised subject taxonomy to replace current full subject listing, and in a subsequent release (circa 1 sprint later) release the search functionality for subjects
- Release revised subject taxonomy to replace current full subject listing, and monitor analytics to decide whether in a subsequent release (circa 1 sprint later) to release the search functionality for subjects and/or a full subject list.
Resource
- Paul Seiler (Unlicensed) to do create the mapping
- Andrew Bredenkamp to build the structure in Squiz
- Joe Lobotka (Unlicensed) to work on the design from the current topic wireframe
- Chrissi Dean (Unlicensed) to manage the consultation, sign off and plan
Timeframe & plan
- Deadline of Oct 1st - release plan Tuesday 29th September
- Andrew and Paul's work to commence in sprint 19
- Joe to pick up UI development around COO work at the end of sprint 19/start of sprint 20
- Testing plan to be drawn up
Risks/Implications
- Sign off from key stakeholders on delivery - taxonomy being reviewed via PVC's
- Subjects being hidden in taxonomy without search functionalty
- Will related subjects be seen clearly by user if do not want to place subjects in more than one topic (needs to be tested)
- Other implications of release timings i.e. with student recruitment - Paul and Joe presented to SRAO, other key stakeholders being identified
- Groupings will not align with any university publications - acknowledged
- Other project work impacting delivery i.e. COO time for Joe - planned
- Other unplanned working impacting delivery
- If not delivered before 1st Oct may have to wait until after Tri 1 enrolment
- Metadata would need to be signed off by faculties and schools - with Faculty Managers now, feedback by 21st Sept
- Images used may need to be signed off by F&S's - noting that topics do not break down into singular areas so there would be overlap of sign off - not a priority, can wait if sign off required, or images cannot be sourced
- Topics and subjects will not be filtered down into UG and PG for those pages in study, however the subjects are not currently filtered on the UG page e.g. Nursing, Midwifery and Health - same as now so low priority
- If we need need to filter UG and PG topics and subjects, the tagging solution would need to be in place
- Line calls to be made on where PG subjects map to if no subject page (probably the programme) and whether we have two links for subjects that are both UG and PG
- Subject names in the new taxonomy may not exactly match the name on the subject pages
- The number of subjects linking to faculty and school sites will increase from the current list, which will show more inconsistencies between the templates
Consultation/sign off
- Review with Nigel - ongoing
- Present to Mads (tbc if via PMO) - PMO 24th Sept
- Review with PVC's with Mads - Done, final feedback due Wednesday
- Present to Faculty Managers - moved to 29th Sept
