Goals

  • Understand the work around staff profiles/directory ongoing by ITS
  • What solution is trying to be solved
  • What are the timeframes
  • What impact this would have on WIP and Engagement work

ITS PlansStu and Nigel
  • ITS are currently looking to utilise a free Office 365 solution for centralising staff data in MS SharePoint
  • This is more focussed around staff directory currently than a staff profile
  • A personal space called 'My SharePoint' is available for each user, who can update their own profile
  • It is currently set up for an internal audience only but security could be set at individual attribute level
  • Current set up links data from Active Directory - HR data around org charts
  • API's should be feasible to access to data
  • My SharePoint is the standard UI for this, but it was noted it may not be suitable for staff profiles (needs discussion)
  • Stu noted that most of the data we would be looking for 'could' be stored in Active Directory (perhaps bar Research data)
  • Some discussion around linking with Research Master data. This would need further discussion
  • Timeframes - this has only been looked at in the last couple of weeks within ITS so is very much in its infancy
  • Would potentially replace current sources of data such as IPFX, and otherwise pull in data from various sources into one view
  • There was discussion around the use of an identify engine in the future (far far away) which could allow users to manage all data in one view which would push and pull as required
  • The current view is that data that would be pulled from AD could be updated in My SharePoint.
Next stepsAll
  • Chrissi will provide Nigel with a copy of the attributes we are considering for the online staff profiles this week
  • Nigel will review and feedback by Friday what systems they belong to and the current situation in terms of accessing the data
