Lives: In Wellington with parents;

Schools: Wellington High School; Year 12; studying geography (liked human trafficking topic), classics (liked recent study on Greek humour (not that he implied that the current events in Greece were funny)), biology and statistics

Interests outside of school: like walking/tramping (with Dad); interested in social justice and involved in this via social media (e.g. Tumbler); Facebook to stay in touch with friends;

Awareness/preparedness for post-school: Stated showing an interest in Yr11 because some of his friends engaged in discussion/research then.Been to careers expo (TSB) and browsed three uni websites (Vic, Canterbury and Auckland)

Post-school options: Wants to work in a field where he can help people

Want to know from website: Subject summaries, blunt/honest not whimsical. Good solid detailed information. "Is this subject right for me?" "What have previous students of this subject gone on to do?". Entry requirements in order to study this subject. Complimentary subjects (to study in parallel and enhance/support primary interest). Job opportunities. Costs (he worries about the debt and paying it off).

If not Vic would want to know about accommodation/dorms, etc

High level I/A: Numbered are where to find info about what you want to study, rest were to tease out understanding of the term.

  1. Future students: This seems like it is for me
  2. Faculty and schools: Maybe where I see what courses are on offer. Schools teach, so subject related. Faculties are for admin, maybe the buildings.
  • Current Students: overview of people currently studying here, their stories, experiences
  • Study at Vic: whats on offer, what a degree means, what a Vic degree is worth
  • Life at Vic: social, people, accommodation, clubs
  • About us: overview of uni, location, contact details
  • Learning and teaching: no idea

2nd level I/A: Numbered are where to find info about what you want to study, rest were to tease out understanding of the term.

  1. Study areas: Start with the general or higher and from here drill down to the more specific
  2. Subjects/topics/course/degrees: All related/similar but below/within Study areas. All general groupings
  • Topics: Does not appeal
  • Degrees: What is on offer, what it entails, what I can do with it.
  • Course: Plan of action, overview of environmental studies, for example. A list of papers
  • Programme: whole, on offer, more technical/detailed information
  • Qualification: what you can do with a degree, leads to careers, jobs, opportunities.

To enrol: Study at Vic

Starting on the home page:

Future students to Discover Vic before even looking for courses

Back to FS, then Programmes and courses then Subjects

The jumped to Course Finder from left menu, rather than navigating to a subject. Set UP and then selected subject from drop down.

Went to SOCS 222. Liked related courses block. Results was not what he expected (i.e. not a subject) but he worked this out quickly.

Required guidance to get in to a subject page, but it was then appreciated. Liked intro (captivating), related subjects (to consider alternatives), did not understand the major or points stuff at all so ignored it but would have explored "educational links" if they were available.

Liked having contact details and thought he would call. Careers list was of interest

 Subject selected for Treejack: Need to match up with results in the tool

  1. Psychology
  2. Geography
  3. Religious studies
