Information needs from Victoria
Mattie is starting to think seriously about his future line of work. At the end of last year, Wellington High held a careers evening to help students choose the right school subjects for year 12. Mattie had picked up quite a bit of information at the careers evening, and told Mike he's looked at a few websites, but seemed a bit overloaded by all the information and choices.
Mike wanted to give him advice and help him make an informed choice, so he went to the websites of several universities and looked at what degrees they offer that are relevant to working overseas in third world countries: and what school subjects are recommended. While he was there, Mike also looked at what it might cost to do a degree and what the government contribution might be.
Mike went to Victoria's website first, because it has a good reputation and Mattie could save money by living at home: he hadn't voiced a strong desire to live in another town.
Mike also looked at Canterbury, where he went to uni in his time, and a couple of others that he randomly thought of - Massey and Waikato - just for comparison.
