We will work better together if we understand each other. Having some agreed definitions is one way to improve our communication, both within the team and with other stakeholders. This page is somewhere that we can build up a list of terms and give them meaning.

 

Course

  • Sometimes (previously or elsewhere) referred to as paper;
  • The smallest unit unit of learning or study in which a student can enrol;  

  • Builds towards a programme or qualification, based on following some rules

  • Course: "  A  unit  of  such  a  curriculum

Programme

  • Sometimes referred to as qualification. 
  • The set of courses undertaken by a student towards a degree or diploma, undergraduate or postgraduate; and the requirements that a student must comply with to gain that qualification(s).
    • Is a programme the process or the end result?

  • Qualification: "an official record of achievement awarded on the successful completion  of a course of training or passing of an exam"

 

Subject

  • The domains or areas in which “related” courses are grouped, with a unique profile on our web site..
  • Also serve as major/minor areas within programmes.
  • No labels
