Technology and internet

Communications preferences: Email. (would MyVic or BB be relevant to a PhD student? What about Victoria Facebook pages?)

Technology: Standard android phone. Has Helen prefers email for communications from Vic.

Helen has a laptop and sometimes uses the Vic WIFI, mainly to do research while she's on campus.  She has a standard Android phone.

Tertiary education and career goals

Has completed one year of a PhD in Nursing. Has a masters degree but believes her career prospects will be much better if she has a PhD - in fact, it may eventually become a requirement.

Driven to complete her thesis well and get a better career from that.

Helen did a BA at Victoria after she left school. She has returned to do a Graduate Diploma in Teaching.

She sees three main benefits:

  1. The qualification she gains will give her a rewarding career.
  2. Returning to study will provide opportunities for personal growth: she hopes to gain confidence and find new directions to follow in life.
  3. She wants to be a role model for her teenage daughter.

If Helen had to describe herself in three words, she'd probably say she was: "Busy, organised and determined".
