Entry requirements

  • Before enrollment, a candidate for the MEd degree MTchLrn(Primary) shall have:
    • Completed completed a Bachelor's degree (usually with at least a B average) in Education, Psychology or a related discipline, or an approved teacher education degree, or a Bachelor's degree and a Diploma of Teaching from an approved institute for teacher education;
    • Hold a middle or senior management position in a secondary school;
    • Been at an academic level appropriate for postgraduate study, or an appropriate postgraduate qualification;
    • a suitable academic foundation and intellectual ability for teaching all subjects in the curriculum for primary schools;
    • demonstrated the qualities necesary for a satisfactory teacher; and
    • been accepted by the Associate Dean (Students) of the Faculty of Education.

Supplementary information

  • Students who wish to enroll for the MEd but don't meet some the entry requirements should contact the Faculty of Education to discuss their suitability for a possible exemption
    • as a candidate for this degree.

Programme requirements

  • Total of 180 points required.
  • Complete EDUC 503.
  • Complete further courses worth 150 points from those listed for the MEd.

  • Standard ones on Requirements of PG programmes
  • Students who wish to enrol in EDUC 585 or EDUC 590 will need to achieve an average grade of B or above for all their postgraduate course work and a B+ or better in EDUC 503.
  • Students currently enrolled in a BA(Hons) in Education who wish to transfer to the 180 point MEd may do so but will be required to abandon their Honours qualification. Students who have completed a BA(Hons) in Education who wish to enrol in the MEd must complete EDUC 503 and a further courses worth 90 points from those listed for the MEd.
