    Career head start

I'm working toward my Master's but have already had great career opportunities. Last summer I was lucky enough to get an internship with an engineering firm as an environmental scientist. I'm currently employed part time with the same company as a graduate engineering geologist. Both jobs have been awesome, particularly because they involve getting outside and doing a lot of field work.

Studying at Victoria has made it possible for me to pursue the career I wanted. Not only were the courses I studied really valuable, but I picked up different skills along the way. My studies gave me the confidence and competence to work in the field, and taught me how to interpret findings and to communicate these effectively in reports and presentations. These have been crucial skills I learned and developed at Victoria.

    Great research opportunities

What I’ve enjoyed most about Victoria is the people, the environment, and the calibre and variety of research. One of the best parts in my opinion are the opportunities available in post-graduate study. The quality of the staff, their research interests, and also their connections with research institutions like GNS Science and NIWA means there are so many potential avenues of research.

My Master's research looks at landslide mechanics, and I'm specifically investigating the failure mechanics and behaviour of Wellington’s engineered fill-slopes in response to rainstorms.
