News and Events next to each other

Background
A few different Faculties/Schools have said they would like the homepage news and events to be next to each other on a desktop screen as it can be a long way to scroll to get to them.
I think the real issue is they feel they are buried whereas before you could pretty much take the whole homepage in 'at a glance'
