Content Audit: Guidelines and resources

Our resource kit needs to:

  • Inform the stakeholder why they are being asked to do this activity: The primary reason is that they know their content better than we do. With so many pages to cover we all need to be efficient with our time.
  • Make it easy for them:
  • Be comprehensive: This means covering all pages

This page is where we collect and develop our ideas on what guidelines and resources we should provide to faculty and school staff so they can direct our efforts prior to and during the content migration exercise.

The purposes of the audit are:

  • To identify content can be deleted (either the entire page or sections on it), moved (to a better location (based on it's audience/purpose) and retained.
  • To identify the primary audience(s) for pages that are to be moved or retained.
  • To identify content that would be valuable but is currently not present.
  • To actually make the deletions and updates (to out of date content), ideally before we migrate the content.

Questions/actions

Audit steps

  1. Quickly check over full range of pages (as signaled by the url (Column A) and page view data (Column B)) and signal back to us if you believe pages are missing.
  2. WIP team does has performed a first cut of signalling pages related to WIPII core content (i.e. courses, subjects, degrees, programmes and staff profile, as signaled in Column C). Feel free to question or change if you think we have made a mistake.
    1. If the page will be handled as core content (value in Column C is a yes option) then the row/other columns can be ignored.
  3. For all pages that will not be handled as core content:
    1. Reviewer to signal if the page should be deleted (Column D: Delete whole page, Delete part of page, No, retain whole page). They may wish to provide a reason (Column E) if one of the delete options is selected. They should use Notes (Column I) to explain which parts should be deleted.
  4. For all pages that will not be handled as core content and shouldn't be deleted completely:
    1. Reviewer to signal if the page is best moved from the faculty/school site to another part of home site (Column E: Move whole page, move part of the page or leave the page where it is). They may wish to suggest a location where (part of) page should move to (Column D). They should use Notes (Column I) to explain which parts should be moved.
    2. Reviewer to indicate the primary audience(s).
  5. Feel free to ask any questions (Column J).
