  • Tymara Oberdries (Unlicensed) (Be careful cos it's live!) Under Why wellington change text to read:

Wellington is at New Zealand's political and scientific heart. It's the seat of government and the site of embassies and high commissions, non-governmental organisations and Crown Research Institutes, like GNS Science and NIWA. It's also the home of some fascinating natural features—like a major fault lineand a short trip away from the Volcanic Plateau and the southern glaciers.

Geographic Information Science

Learn to use computer-based systems to explore spatial and geographic data. Create new ways to visually interpret and present this information—on maps and map layers, using smartphones and mobile devices as data viewers, and even through interactive infographics.

You'll investigate the ideas behind the creation of these systems and think about the way we can conceptualise spatial problems—from disaster management, to conservation monitoring, to archaeology.

If you want to find new ways to think about and represent geographic information, then Geographic Information Science is right for you.
Postgraduate programmes
Master's in Geographic Information Science – MGIS
Geographic Information Science is only available at postgraduate level, and is taught together with the University of Canterbury and Auckland University of Technology (AUT).
