  • Have had to remove the most popular double major (at this stage) because of functional limits on the 'major selection' block (i.e. having this double major would have prevented students selecting any other combination of these three majors).
  • Removed supplementary information and tool tips after checking that it is in Gather Content (the system we use for faculty and school staff to review, comment and approve prior to loading in to Squiz (the web platform)).

Duration/intensity

The BBmedSc represents three years of full-time study and may also be studied part-time.


Entry Requirements

To be accepted into the BBmedSc you need to:

  • achieve University Entrance for at least one of the admission types.

Degree requirements

  • Total of 360 points required, of which:
    • Maximum of 180 points at 100 level.
    • At least 180 points must be at 200 and 300 level.
  • Complete six core courses at 100 level (usually in first year):
    • BIOL 111
    • BIOL 114
    • BMSC 117
    • CHEM 114
    • PSYC 121 or PSYC 122
    • MATH 141 or STAT 193.
  • Complete three core courses at 200 level (usually in second year):
    • BIOL 241
    • BIOL 243
    • BIOL 244.
  • Satisfy the requirements for at least one major subject.
  • Electives courses to make up the 360 points may be chosen from any other first degree at this university.

Major subject requirements

Human Genetics (HGEN)

  • Complete BMSC 116.
  • Complete BIOL 252.
  • Complete three courses at 300 level:
    • BIOL 340
    • BMSC 339
    • BMSC 343.
  • Complete one further from BIOL, BMSC or BTEC 200-399.
  • Complete one further course from BMSC 300-399.

Molecular Pathology (MOLP)

  • Complete BMSC 116.
  • Complete BIOL 252.
  • Complete five courses at 300 level:
    • BIOL 340
    • BMSC 301
    • BMSC 323
    • BMSC 334
    • BMSC 335.

Molecular Pharmacology and Medicinal Chemistry (MPMC)

  • Complete CHEM 115.
  • Complete CHEM 201 and CHEM 205.
  • Complete five courses at 300 level:
    • BMSC 335
    • BMSC 354
    • CHEM 301
    • CHEM 305
    • One further course from BIOL, BMSC, BTEC or CHEM 300-399.
