Following the deployment of the new design in 2024, we are well-positioned to begin enhancing our website homepage based on user interaction data.
Hotjar and mouseflow
Our options include using hotjar and mouseflow, for which we are paying for currently. The functionality is similar. Perhaps, instead of paying for both tools, we could use one of them.

Heatmaps
We need access to more comprehensive statistics to make informed decisions.
As shown in the screenshot below, using Hotjar we can currently analyse only 35 sessions a day, whereas our website attracts approximately 20,000 sessions daily.
This is an example of a heatmap of our homepage in Hotjar. It has too few clicks for us to be able to see any real trends.
In Mouseflow, we have more data and it’s shown as a trend.
However, we have a limited number of heatmaps on our plan and often run out of credits each month.
Surveys
We have a pop-up survey on the Find a service tool for current students for a limited time. Some users are providing helpful feedback regarding what they searched for and couldn’t find.
In other situations, we can only see a person’s sentiment. For example, this person advised that they didn’t have a good experience, but left it at that.
Due to our plan limitations, we’re not able to see how they used the filter to find a service and where it might have gone wrong for them.
Forms
The following is an example report from Mouseflow showing the performance of an online form.
