Degree requirements

  • Total of 360 points required (recommended 120 points/year).
  • Of the 360 points:
    • At least 270 points must be from courses listed for the BAS
    • At least 210 points must be at 200 and 300 level.
    • Of the 210 points at least 180 points must be from courses listed for the BAS.
      • Of the 180 points at least of 75 points must be at 300 level.
  • Complete eight core courses at 100 level (in first year):
    • SARC 111
    • SARC 112
    • SARC 121
    • SARC 122
    • SARC 131
    • SARC 151
    • SARC 161
    • SARC 162.
  • Satisfy the requirements for one major (selected from the drop down list below).

Supplementary information

  • SARC 122 may be replaced by an elective course by students who:
    1. Have at least 14 NCEA Level 3 credits in each of two of Calculus, Physics, and Statistics; or
    2. Plan to study Landscape Architecture or Architecture History and Theory. Students in this category are still recommended to complete SARC 122 to keep their second year options open.
  • SARC 111 and SARC 161 may be replaced by DSDN 101 and DSDN 111 by students who plan to study Interior Architecture.
  • BAS students share "a common first year . . interests and needs" (GUS, p.38)
  • "Each major subject shares . . " (GUS, p.38)
  • "No portfolio is required to . . " (GUS, p.38)
  • Entry to the second year is based on academic performance across all the first year courses.
