In terms of setting up the site, most of it is one click and automated with the exception of:

  • FTP accounts (trivial)

  • SSL – not difficult and again one click – more a case of understanding what you want to do

  • Email – a bit more challenging.

Housekeeping

  • Assess if you still need the site - and that initiative extends to assessing the different sections of the site, and even individual pages.  If a page no longer aligns with what your organisation does, why continue to display it to visitors?

  • Ensure that the latest version of WordPress (currently 6.1 at time of writing) is installed.  If your site is running on old software, you may be vulnerable to more recently developed security threats.  You can use a test site or “staging” site where you can test upgrades, to make sure they don’t break the site

  • Ensure that any Plug-ins and licenses you use are up-to-date.

  • If you are running Google Analytics, which monitors the number of visits per page, please ensure that the site’s "Privacy statement" reflects this.
