When considering universities I chose Victoria because …
Not sure what to write here. I originally chose Vic as it was the easiest option. I was already living in Wellington. Stayed for postgraduate as I have a music studio and wanted to use what I'm learning in a work environment. If I moved I wouldn't have the chance to make use of what I'm learning...

Pull quote: With strong composition, performance and musicology departments, it's easy to have opportunities in all areas.

After finishing my BMus I wanted to

start research

do some research in music pedagogy at a

postgrad

postgraduate level. I

have been

've been able to craft my degree to suit my needs. Being able to pick and choose from

mulitple papers from

multiple courses from Music,

education

Education and

anthropology

Anthropology has meant I can tailor my degree to suit me.

I studied [the programme] because…

More music in schools
I'

m currently studying a Bachelor

m doing a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) majoring in

music

Music as I'm really interested in music

pedagogy

teaching and learning. Outside of the university I am a Suzuki violin teacher and have had the opportunity to teach in

multiple schools

many schools. From

working in multiple schools I have seen the lack

this experience I have noticed there is a lack of music education

at a

in most primary

level

schools.

I wanted

I wanted the chance to study music education at

postgraducate level

postgraduate level to see if there was a way to

start music

introduce music in primary schools once more.

I'm only in week three of my honors year and I have already used a lot of the teaching tools I have learnt in my own teaching.

I had amazing opportunities at Victoria to…

Diversity and choice
The music community

is

here at Victoria is so diverse. Coming from a small violin community I have been exposed to all sorts of weird, wacky but also great music and art. With strong composition, performance and musicology departments it's easy to have opportunities in all areas. You just need to ask!

Studying and living in Wellington was great because…

Wellington is such a fantastic city to be living in. As a musician there is always a gig or a concert to attend or be playing in. The breadth of genres is incredible, there is always something to suit your mood or music taste. Mine is forever fluctuating and yet I always find something to go and see.
