To be accepted into this programme you'll need:


A Bachelor's degree at an academic level appropriate for postgraduate study, or an appropriate postgraduate qualification

One teaching subject in your degree(s) as a major or at a postgraduate level

To have demonstrated through the assessment exercise the qualities necessary for a satisfactory teacher andthrough the interview process

Acceptance by the relevant Associate Dean (StudentsAcademic) as capable of proceeding with the proposed course of study.

  • Meeting You'll need to meet the requirements of the [Good Character and Fit to be a Teacher Policy of the New Zealand Teachers Council [link to  https://educationcouncil.org.nz/content/section-three-policy-documents] which involves finding referees, declarations about criminal convictions and health and disability issues, and an exercise interview to assess your interpersonal skills.
  • The assessment exercise interview includes a literacy and numeracy test and a group activity that evaluates your skills in listening, oral communication and working with others.
  • If English isn't your first language, you must gain a band score of 7.0 or better in each component of the academic IELTS test before you begin the programme.TeachNZ offers a range of scholarships for teachers in training.   1. How many points is TCHG 516 worth? Calendar (on p.233) lists it as 20, but this would make the degree 190 points.
