Programme structure

The Master of Education (MEd) is integrated with the Postgraduate Certificate and the Postgraduate Diploma in Education. Students are encouraged to consider enroling in the MEd but can choose to enrol in the Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma as a first step into postgraduate study.

Master of Education (MEd)

Entry requirements

  • Before enrolment, a candidate for the MEd degree shall have:
    • completed a Bachelor's degree (normally with at least a B average) in Education, Psychology or a related discipline, or an approved teacher education degree, or a Bachelor's degree and a Diploma of Teaching from an approved institute for teacher education;
    • hold a middle or senior management position in a secondary school;
    • been accepted by the Associate Dean (Students) of the Faculty of Education.

Supplementary information

  • Students who wish to enrol for the MEd but don't meet some the entry requirements should contact the Faculty of Education to discuss their suitability for a possible exemption.

Programme requirements

  • Total of 180 points required.
  • Complete EDUC 503.
  • Complete further courses worth 150 points from those listed for the MEd.

Supplementary information

  • Standard ones on Requirements of PG programmes
  • Students who wish to enrol in EDUC 585 or EDUC 590 will need to achieve an average grade of B or above for all their postgraduate course work and a B+ or better in EDUC 503.
  • Students currently enrolled in enroled in a BA(Hons) in Education who wish to transfer to the 180 point MEd may do so but will be required to abandon their Honours qualification. Students who have completed a BA(Hons) in Education who wish to enrol in the MEd must complete EDUC 503 and a further courses worth 90 points from those listed for the MEd.
