Programme structure

Nested within the Master of Secondary School Leadership (MSSL) is the Postgraduate Certificate and the Postgraduate Diploma in Secondary School Leadership, which provide early exit qualifications for candidates who wish to finish their study before completing the full Master's programme.

Master of Secondary School Leadership (MSSL)

Entry requirements

  • Before enrollment, a candidate for the MSSL degree shall have:
    • Completed completed a Bachelor's degree with at least a B average or have completed a postgraduate qualification;
    • Hold hold a middle or senior management position in a secondary school;
    • Been been nominated by and have the support of the principal of the school in which the candidate works; and 
    • Been been accepted by the Associate Dean (Students)  of the Faculty of Education as capable of proceeding with the proposed course of study. This acceptance will depend (among other things) on the positive endorsement of an interview panel of principals and academic staff of the University.

Programme requirements

  • Total of 180 points required.
  • Complete eight courses:
    • MSSL 501
    • MSSL 502
    • MSSL 503
    • MSSL 504
    • MSSL 505
    • MSSL 506
    • MSSL 507
    • One approved elective listed for the MBA or PGDipEdPD.
  • Complete one research or implementation course from:
    • MSSl 508
    • MSSL 509.
